Frequently asked questions

How is the PLE aggregate calculated? +

PLE has four papers: English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Each is graded D1 (1) to F9 (9). Add the four numbers. A lower total is better. Division 1 is aggregate 4–12, Division 2 is 13–23, Division 3 is 24–29, Division 4 is 30–34, and 35–36 is ungraded (Result 9), following UNEB’s 2025 release bands.

Does UCE still have aggregates and Division 1? +

Not under the new lower-secondary curriculum (from 2024). UNEB now reports achievement levels A–E per subject and Result 1 (certificate) or Result 2. You need at least one Grade D or better. The old D1–F9 / best-8 / Division 1–4 system applies to results up to UCE 2023 — use the Old (D1–F9) tab for those slips.

How are old UCE best 8 aggregates counted? +

The eight lowest (best) subject grades are added. If you name English, it is included even when it is your weakest paper. The division shown is from that aggregate only. Official UNEB divisions also required credits in compulsory subjects (English, mathematics, a science, a humanity). Treat it as an estimate.

How do I count UACE points out of 20? +

Add points from your best three principal subjects (A=6, B=5, C=4, D=3, E=2, O=1, F=0) plus General Paper and one other subsidiary. A subsidiary D1–P8 is 1 point; F9 is 0. Maximum is 20. Some universities (including Makerere’s published weighting) count only subsidiary grades 1–6 as a pass — confirm the institution’s rule.
